The Uni-Boob

Well for those of us out there that were blessed (cursed) with more than a handful in the chest department, you know how it is when you go to try on dresses or blouses or anything but t-shirts
covered in children's cartoon characters. You get THE BOOB.THE LOAF. The Single pillow across the chest...No matter HOW hard you try, it's going to turn out UNI-BOOB-ish.....
Well today I got to do a fantastic little photo shoot for my upcoming shows this summer...
I thought I would squeeze in the most creative things I could do in my last few days here, with some of the best in photographers and make-up artists AND TEMPORARY Hair extensions (which I was also informed today, they are 'curtains' not extensions) available!
I also had lessons in which styles of tops and dresses I should be wearing as well as things I probably shouldn't wear...ahem, which, to my dismay makes up my entire wardrobe...
Well we live and learn!
I had the chance to work with this cool, lovely lady named Maripili Senderos. Maripili is THE DUDETTE as far as makeup goes here in Mexico City...Not that I WOULD HAVE EVER known that...My Finnish neighbours Kiia Waden and Kimmo Tuhulo have educated me in this field. She is lovely, funny and managed to make me look good in make-up...lol This alone is the sign of a talented person. (note: The Hair 'Curtains'...Loverly invention, clips into my hair in two seconds and comes off even faster!) Anyways, there is one of my lifelong fantasies covered ( I know...Sad) LONG, CURLY, red hair! TICK!
I got to again work with Carlos Matienzo, a great friend her in Mexico and a fantastic photographer. Not only is he the afore mentioned, but he also plays and sings a MEAN ' Ziggy Played Guitar' after a few beer(s)!  It was a great 2.5 hours this morning, which ended up on time for me to remove the extra hair, wipe off some of the make-up and whip into MOM clothes in order to get my lovely munchkins from school...VERY rock'n roll if you ask me.

I am now 3 days away from moving out of our home here in Mexico, heading back to Canada for the summer and then moving back to Sao Paulo for yet another adventure in 'professional foreigner-isms'.

I have some fantastic shows coming up in June as well as July on Vancouver Island and The Mainland. I am thrilled to announce that for my two dates in Vancouver and Victoria I will also have with me as an opening show, the one and only Ms. Jody Quine. I met Jody years back when I was working on a few songs for the project Balligomingo. Jody is one of their regular writers and singers, is an amazing performer and a REALLY funny woman. I am lucky to get to spend a little bit of time with her, and know all of you will love her, when you come out.

Well that's enough name dropping/ link making for me for one night...I have washed off the remains of my wonderful makeup, pulled of the last strands of luxurious hair, tamed the uni-boob back into its normal t-shirt form and am ready for sleep... Much love, See you all soon.

Fashion Flying Finns Farewell

Well, it is a sign of the changing times when this Guilty Bird happily stays home, cleaning dishes, listening to Billy Bragg and waiting for the inevitable waking cry of one or more babies whilst a household of friends go out on the town in DF on a Tuesday night....Change is fantastic! (Feeling smug, can you tell?)

We say farewell to our Finnish friends Kiia,Kimmo and Nemo today, and wish them well as they make their long journey back to their homeland. I never like to say 'good-bye' as such, more of a 'see you soon' or Hasta Luego... Joined by Carlos matienzo, Jose Grageda and Marina Covarrubias, we ate food, drank beers and passed around the acoustic guitar...All very fitting. We will miss our Finnish friends, and I will miss Mexico even more...It has been an amazing year and a half, and I KNOW we will be back again at some point....I feel blessed to have met such amazing peeps....
hmmmmmmmmmmm, what's next???

When you gotta go, you gotta go!

Hey guys and gals,
I just realized it has been over a month since I have done an update here...tsk tsk tsk
So I am wracking my tired brain to think of exciting news, and whilst all this 'wracking' has been taking place I realize I have TONNES of cool things that have been happening in my life.

I recently shot a video here in Mexico City for the single 'Guilty Birds' off of my latest album titled More than This.
This is the album that I was able to put out thanks to ALL of the amazing people who took part of my PLEDGE MUSIC campaign.
The video was directed by Jose Grageda and shot by Carlos Matienzo and will be available for viewing on April the 6th...I have a few still shots that I can show you for now, and believe me..I am DYING to see it.

I am very happy to know that Radio MD Jay Smith from 99.1 CKXS FM out of Wallaceburg Ontario has added Guilty Birds to his new artist rotation...
This alone is amazing news, as we all know how hard it is to get radio play... I think you could even request it here, for those of you in The Ontario area.

The next step, infact I am doing it right now, is to follow up on my vinyl copies of my album 'Parallel to The Sea'...After a few setbacks, I think we are ready to go...For those people who pledged for them, I will make it UP TO YOU, for this taking so long!!

I had my first original gig here in Mexico City last week at The Black Horse Pub in Condesa, a CD release party and what a freakin' success it was, DESPITE it starting around 1130pm on a Tuesday night...There are some real troopers here in Mexico, and I am super thankful that Umair and Julian let me do my thing at their awesome pub...If you are living in DF or happen to be coming here for Saturday, May 10th...I will be again rocking out for everyone. This pub is THE bomb for music and beer and all things British...The owners are a huge part of the DF scene and really encourage all types of music...I feel blessed that I found out about this place so quickly...Thanks Umair!

As I am heading back to Canada for the summer and plan to be hanging out in Crofton from the start of June until the 2nd week of August, I am now starting to get some summer dates. There will be a show at The Crofton Pub FOR SURE as well as some dates in Duncan with Longevity John Falkner...Hoping also to get to Vancouver...I will be back soon here with updates..I promise.

For my good friend Mani Nassefat who NEVER is online, and probably NEVER reads this, I promise this summer to fix my t-shirt issues that I had last summer, and will be re-printing more t-shirts with better sizes and correct colours...I even found out from my Aunt Mary, that I forgot to send her hers....I am blaming baby brain. Not sure how long I can ride that excuse out, but I am going to keep trying.

I have entered an online competition with CBC radio for airplay...If you would like to vote for me, you can click on this link...YOU ALSO can vote for up to 10 bands in total per day, till mid April I
think...THere are SO MANY FREAKIN' good Canadian bands out there, vying for a little airplay, it is amazing...If you do click on my link, wander over and hear some more bands...You might just fall in love!

Oh by the way....My subject title about 'when you gotta go, you gotta go'- refers to me successfully teaching my 4 year old daughter how to quickly pee beside any bush, or tree, or any slightly inconspicuous object...WHEN and IF the need requires. I believe this and learning how to make a fire are two very important skills, EVERY girl needs in life!

Much love,
Camille xxxx
